History
The Shipping Co. ORION Ltd. was founded in 1912 and for many years managed by C.P. Jensen, Amaliegade in Copenhagen.
Three steamships were owned by the company : s/s "Venus", s/s "Astra" and s/s " Orion". The latter was delivered as a new ship from Wood, Skinner & Co. in Newcastle in 1919, tdw. 3.950. It remained in the shipping company
till 1957 when it was sold to Italy, where it was in use till 1965 when it was broken up.
From the time of sale of the last ship the company "led a quiet life" up untill 1986. It was then taken over by a group of young businessmen who changed the name to Orion Ltd. The company invested in a line of companies, and employed at a time
some 700 people. In 1997 the company succeeded in selling the last asset, a building site close to New York, and the parent company of P.E.P. SHIPPING Ltd., called B.E.L.Holding & Investment Ltd., bought the, in principle, empty company.
B.E.L. Holding & Investments Ltd. reorganized the company, among others by apport deposits by P.E.P.SHIPPING Ltd.. At the same time the company revived its old name and purpose.
P.E.P. SHIPPING Ltd. was founded in the mid-sixties by Mr. Poul Erik Petersen who ran the company as a trading-, agency- and shipping company under the name of Poul Erik Petersen Shipping and Trading. As per 1/4 1971 the company was sold to the charters
Mr. Troels Busk and Mr. John Bent Larsen. The latter took over the company as a sole shareholder on 1/1 1974 and changed the name to P.E.P.
In 1971 P.E.P. founded a party shipping company which purchased a used vessel from Germany, named "Seehausersand" and renamed "PEP SEA". After this followed 22 "PEP- ships" which were either contracted or purchased second-hand.
From 1988 up to today the first mentioned has been followed by 12 new vessels, all of them from Ørskov's Staalskibsværft A/S in Frederikshavn. These vessels are variations over the same concept as the ones shown above.
